Hey, It’s Photo Friday!

NATIVE AMERICA is a “PBS series that challenges everything we thought we knew about the Americas before and since contact with Europe. It travels through 15,000-years to showcase massive cities, unique systems of science, art, and writing and 100 million people connected by social networks and spiritual beliefs spanning two continents.” The program aired in two seasons of four episodes each, the first in 2018 and the second last year. Here’s a promotional poster for the second series of NATIVE AMERICA I spotted in a co-worker’s cubicle…

Hey, It’s Photo Friday!

As 2018 draws to a close, I dipped into the archive of old photos I have and found this publicity still for the UNC-TV original THIS TIME EACH YEAR (the title just seemed appropriate). Hosted by North Carolina musician Mike Cross, this hour-long special explored the strong ties between Tar Heel State festivals and the sturdy heritage of its people. It first aired in May 1986 and featured (according to the write-up in our programming database) “Native Americans dancing the eagle dance, kilted scots playing bagpipes, farmers hollering, children clogging.” We haven’t aired THIS TIME EACH YEAR lately but it’s entirely possible this UNC-TV classic could pop up again on your airwaves in the future.
