Of the core quartet of characters on ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL, which are the only two to appear in every episode of the series?

The core quartet of characters is easily defined as James Herriot, Helen Herriot, Siegfried Farnon and Tristan Farnon. Mrs. Hall was a mainstay during the first three series and Calum Buchanan joined the vet staff in later years. But the core four of James, Helen, Siegfried and Tristan were seen throughout all 90 episodes. Still, in a series airing as long as ACGAS, it’s not unusual for actors to depart and characters to be written out. Luckily, the core four made it all the way through (although Helen was portrayed by two different actresses).

Of course, as in any program, not all of the main characters are seen in each and every episode. Sometimes an actor is unwell or has a conflict. Sometimes a writer just doesn’t include a character in a script. Regardless, it’s rare for a long-running show to have all of it’s main actors/characters in every single story.
