Wednesday Trivia Question

Who composed the opening theme to MONTY PYTHON’S FLYING CIRCUS?

This question’s easy enough for Python fans and probably pretty gettable for anyone who’s ever heard the familiar strains of the American military march that was oddly yet so perfectly co-opted for one of the most influential sketch shows of all time. Punctuated by Terry Gilliam’s animation, that music with all its brass and woodwinds and percussion is just so iconic and now so closely associated with MONTY PYTHON’S FLYING CIRCUS that it may be forevermore impossible to separate the two. (Indeed, I just looked up a performance of the march by “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band on YouTube and all the comments below seemed to be nothing but Python jokes!)

So who is it? Who is the composer of the opening theme to MONTY PYTHON’S FLYING CIRCUS?

John Philip Sousa is the answer. His military march “The Liberty Bell” is used as the opening theme to MONTY PYTHON’S FLYING CIRCUS. [cue foot]
