Wednesday Trivia Question

What was the nickname of Archie Simpson on DEGRASSI HIGH?

DEGRASSI HIGH was a Canadian television series created by Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood. It aired from 1989 to 1991 and was a direct continuation of DEGRASSI JUNIOR HIGH with many of the characters from that show reprising their roles. DJH was the second program in the DEGRASSI franchise, a television world that spanned multiple decades.

PBS stations carried both DEGRASSI JUNIOR HIGH and DEGRASSI HIGH. The latter was followed up with a stand alone TV move titled SCHOOL’S OUT which aired in 1992.

For many Gen Xers and Millennials, DEGRASSI was a favorite series as it was one of the first to have teen characters portrayed by actual teenagers, depicting real life problems faced by young people. The cast was made of primarily of a repertoire of adolescent actors, some of whom were main characters, many who were background. Sometimes the background people would get moved up to main status or get an important storyline of their own.

One of the regular characters was a teen named Archie Simpson, played by Stefan Brogren. Known for being tall (six foot by grade 8), Archie was rebellious and into anything fun. He could be somewhat irresponsible but was a a decent student, eventually running for school president. He was pals with Joey Jeremiah (Pat Mastroianni) and Derek “Wheels” Wheeler (Neil Hope). In later series (not aired by PBS), Simpson would become a teacher at Degrassi and later its principal.
