Where Do I Know That Actor?

If you missed PRESS on MASTERPIECE then you missed a intriguingly taut drama dealing with journalism ethics in the twenty-first century. You also missed a few familiar faces you may have recognized from other shows UNC-TV has broadcast. Let’s meet the PRESS gang.

Charlotte Riley starred as Herald news editor Holly Evans. About a decade back, Riley played Catherine on a Masterpiece adaptation of Wutherings Heights (opposite Tom Hardy as Heathcliff). More recently, she portrayed Kate on King Charles III.

Priyanga Burford was Herald editor Amina Chaudury. She, too, was in King Charles III as a Mrs. Stevens. Going back about twenty years, her first role was Dr. Swann in A Rather English Marriage on Masterpiece Theatre.

Al Weaver played James Edwards, an investigative reporter at the Herald. He may be best known for portraying Leonard Finch on Grantchester (currently Mondays at 8pm on UNC-EX). He was also Rivers in The Hollow Crown.

Paapa Essiedu was Post reporter Ed Washburn. Recently, Essiedu played Otto in The Miniaturist. He also provided narration for the documentary Prince Charles at 70.

Ellie Kendrick portrayed Herald staffer Leona Manning-Lynd. The actress has a few guest roles of note on shows like Upstairs Downstairs and Prime Suspect but she will most likely be known for playing the title role in The Diary of Anne Frank.

Kasia Koleczek, who played Krystyna, may be remembered as Susie Jasinski in series one of Father Brown.

Lastly, David Suchet was George Emmerson, chairman and CEO of Worldwide News. If the name isn’t instantly recognizable then you did not watch Agatha Christie’s Poirot. Suchet was, of course, the titular Belgian super sleuth for nearly twenty-five years. Going back a few decades, Suchet also played Edward Teller in the American Playhouse presentation Oppenheimer (starring Sam Waterston). On Masterpiece, he has been T.J. O’Connor K.C. in Cause célèbre (starring Helen Mirren), Alfred Verloc on The Secret Agent, Augustus Melmotte in The Way We Live Now, Abraham Van Helsing in Dracula and Jaggers in Great Expectations.

Catch a repeat of the finale of PRESS this Saturday morning at 4 on MASTERPIECE.
