It’s no secret that public broadcasting has some pretty high quality programming. And, quite often, the shows that you see on UNC-TV earn not only critical praise but actual bona fide awards from serious award sources! So if you’ll indulge me – here are a few recent accolades tossed in the direction of public television.
The James Beard Media Awards are given annually by the James Beard Foundation and are the highest honor for food and beverage professionals working in North America. The 2018 James Beard Media Awards were announced on Friday, April 27, and PBS and member station programs were awarded three Broadcast Media Awards in the following categories:.
Special (on TV or Web) – Lidia Celebrates America: Homegrown Heroes
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 45th Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards last week and I’m pleased to report that PBS received 23 nominations. The PBS Kids program ODD SQUAD received eight nominations alone.
Last week, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 44th Annual Daytime Emmy® Entertainment Awards. The good news? PBS and PBS Kids programs received 31 nominations! In addition, APT (American Public Television) received seven nominations and NETA (National Educational Telecommunications Association) earned one, making for a combined total of 39 nominations for public media. The children’s series Odd Squad alone garnered an impressive fifteen nominations!

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 43rd Annual Daytime Emmy® Entertainment Awards late last month and, once again, PBS shows got quite a few nominations. In fact, PBS and PBS Kids shows received a 44 nominations, while other public broadcasting shows got more than a dozen.
The Daytime Emmy® Awards will be held on May 1st.
