Henry Louis Gates, Jr. brings to life the epic stories of both little-known and celebrated African kingdoms and cultures. Africa’s Great Civilizations premieres tonight at 9 on UNC-TV and continues Wednesday and Thursday night.

Public broadcasting pioneer Ward Chamberlain, Jr. passed away last week at the age of 95. You may not know the name but you’ve been touched by his work.
