Fans of the UK-import Doc Martin know that a new series is a rare thing indeed. So far, we’ve been treated to seven seasons of 54 episodes spread out over eleven years. Will we ever see the haemophobic doctor and the residents of Portwenn in new episodes? The answer is “yes” – the only question is “when?”
Well, there’s good(ish) news from APT, the American distributer of Doc Martin, who shared the following message from producers of the international hit series:
“We are very excited to be able to confirm that we will be making two more seasons of Doc Martin. Season 8 will shoot and be broadcast in 2017 [in the UK], then we’ll be taking our usual year off to plan, write and tune the scripts. Season 9 will shoot and be broadcast 2019 [in the UK] and air around the world in 2020. It’s then our intention to bring the series to an end. We’ve had the most incredible time making this show that we love and care deeply for, and feel very privileged. We’d like to thank our audience around the world for coming on this great journey with us and really hope you enjoy these next two seasons and think they’re the best yet – it’s certainly what we’re aiming for!”

So, as you can see – two more seasons is excellent news. However, it does appear these will be the last two seasons. Nonetheless, Doc Martin fans can rest assured that the popular series will return. My guess is we’ll see the new series sometime early next year and, as always, I’ll let you know when I hear something.
