In what comedy series did John Thaw play a father whose life is disrupted when his teenage son unexpectedly comes to live with him?
Most viewers will immediately recognize the late John Thaw as the star of Inspector Morse on Mystery! However, Thaw starred and guest-starred in dozens of programs and movies during his forty-year career (his earliest TV role was in the 1960s, his last about 15 years ago). One of the programs was a Britcom featuring Thaw as perfectly happy, divorced, fortysomething man living alone in London and having to deal with the sudden arrival of his 18-year-old son. The series was produced in the late 1980s and UNC-TV aired it in 2002.
But what was the name of this situation comedy? “Home To Roost” was the title of the Britcom produced by Yorkshire Television from 1985 to 1990. John Thaw starred as Henry Willows and Reece Dinsdale was his son Matthew. FYI – Dinsdale may be known to UNC-TV viewers for another Mystery! series as he played Albert on the early-80s “Partners In Crime” (an adaptation of the Agatha Christie stories) starring James Warwick and Francesca Annis as the adventurous detective duo Tommy and Tuppence Beresford.
