Where Do I Know That Actor?

Checking back in with The Durrells on Masterpiece this week. Some new characters have popped up, a couple played by actors you may recognize.

The Countess Mavrodaki first appeared in the series’ third episode. As Margot’s employer, the Countess will be a recurring character. The actress, however, should be well familiar to cine-philes – she’s French performer Leslie Caron. Best known for films like Gigi and Lili, Caron has acted since the early 1950s. Her first film was An American In Paris – a movie UNC-TV broadcast as part of our Movies Worth Taping series back in the 90s.

Dennis, the Countess’s manservant, is played by Jeremy Swift. Swift has been seen as Glenvil Harris on Foyle’s War and QMS Reggie Soper on The Crimson Field. Yet I think it’s safe to say he will be best known to UNC-TV viewers for playing another servant – he was Spratt on Downton Abbey.

The Durrells In Corfu continues Sunday night on UNC-TV.

Got a face you can’t place from one of the plethora of programs UNC-TV airs from the UK? Email me at sparkymac@unctv.org and I’ll try to help out.
