A two-fer this week as I tackle the star of a new series and a guest star on a regular series.
First, let’s talk The Durrells In Corfu, the newest addition to Sunday’s Masterpiece line-up. If you’re not watching this program, you’re missing a fish-out-of-water tale about an eccentric family of English expats making a new life on a Greek island in the 1930s.
The Durrells In Corfu stars Keeley Hawes as Louisa Durrell, a widow raising four children. Hawes has been, it appears, a semi-regular presence on UNC-TV since the late 1990s. Among the roles you may have seen her in include Suze Beaumont in The Tunnel and Zoe Reynolds in MI-5. She has also been in a handful of Masterpiece series like Upstairs Downstairs (Lady Agnes), Under The Greenwood Tree (Fancy Day), Lucky Jim (Christine Callaghan), Wives And Daughters (Cynthia Kirkpatrick) and Our Mutual Friend (Lizzie Hexam).
The Durrells In Corfu continues Sunday night at 8 on UNC-TV.
The second actor of note was on Saturday night’s Midsomer Murders. The episode in question (Down Among The Dead Men, Part 1) saw DCI Barnaby investigating the death of a blackmailer. Among the bevy of villagers, witnesses and suspects alike, is Ruby Wilmott, played by Julia McKenzie. Longtime fans of British comedy will know her best as Hester Fields on the sitcom Fresh Fields and it’s follow-up series French Fields.
Down Among The Dead Men concludes Saturday night at 8 on UNC-TV.
Got a face you can’t place from one of the plethora of programs UNC-TV airs from the UK? Email me at email@example.com and I’ll try to help out.
