What children’s song was the ending theme to Lamb Chop’s Play-Along?
Children of the 1990s may well remember the PBS Kids show Lamb Chop’s Play-Along featuring ventriloquist Shari Lewis and her collection of puppet characters. Aside from the titular Lamb Chop, there was Charlie Horse and Hush Puppy, just to name a few. The opening theme song for the series was “It’s Lamb Chop’s Play-Along” but the end theme was a children’s composition written in 1988 by Norman Martin that may have vexed more than its fair share of adults. What was it?
“The Song That Doesn’t End” (also called “The Song That Never Ends”) is the end theme. The lyrics are pretty simple:
This is the song that doesn’t end / Yes, it goes on and on my friend / Some people started singing it not knowing what it was / And they’ll continue singing it forever just because…
Aaaaand repeat until your parents lose their minds. That’s the gist of it. Hilarious for kids and rather fitting for Lamp Chop and company.
