Wednesday Trivia Question

What is the name of Miss Fisher’s faithful butler?

Devotees of captivating crime stories and winsome whodunnits have probably already devoured the Australian export Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (Fridays at 9pm on UNC-EX). Essie Davis plays the titular Miss Fisher, a glamorous private detective in 1920s Melbourne. Like most sleuths, she amasses a flock of faithful friends and colorful comrades to aid in her investigations. Her manservant and butler (played by Richard Bligh) is only one of them. But what is the character’s name?

Give up? It’s Mr. Butler. Don’t you just love it? You might call it lazy writing – I think it’s brilliant. The series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries is based on the Phryne Fisher books by Australian author and lawyer Kerry Greenwood. In the novels, Phryne employs the services of Mr. and Mrs. Bulter, who act as her butler and cook. Hmm. I wonder if we can assume Mrs. Butler’s maiden name is Cook?
