What was the title of the 1985 musical comedy feature film in which Big Bird runs away from home?
This may be a beloved movie from your childhood or something perhaps your children loved. Either way, think back. It was the first of two Sesame Street theatrically-released films (the second being “Elmo In Grouchland” in 1999) and starred many Sesame Street characters (both puppets and live actors). It even boasted a variety of famous cameos (Chevy Chase, John Candy, Waylon Jennings, to name a few). But what was the name? The answer: “Sesame Street Presents Follow That Bird.” More commonly called simply “Follow That Bird.” The premise is that the Feathered Friends’ Board of Birds decides Big Bird needs to be relocated from Sesame Street to live with a family of birds. When Big Bird runs away from his new home, his friends from Sesame Street go looking for him. Here’s the trailer.
I don’t know if the film was ever aired on PBS but I think the Sesame Street connection makes it trivia-worthy. Also, if you’ve never seen the movie, the DVD is available for sale online and you can view it from various movie services (I just added it to my Netflix queue).
